I had always wanted to paint tropical plants in a jungle, so when the opportunity came to visit a tropical rainforest created artificially in the glass domes of the Eden Project in Cornwall, I made sure that I took as many photographs as possible. I was in this way able to paint a scene that looked more natural than if I had tried to imitate Henri Rousseau who had to refer to the Parisian Botanical Gardens for his jungle inspirations.
