This small oval portrait is of a great friend and former pupil of my husband when he taught at Uppingham School. Reunited after almost fifty years, the pair have many a long chat about literature and their time at the school. This painting, designed as a gift, was an experiment in modern portrait painting. I made it small as I wanted a break from the physical exertion of painting large canvases, but also because it could be easily hidden away by Dylan if he did not like it!
