Burghley Tapestry

I wanted to paint a version of an old tapestry to put on the wall above the bed in our guest bedroom. I created this diptych using a limited palette of emulsion paints to blend in with the interior design of the room. I often feel great admiration for the ladies of the past who created tapestries, painstakingly stitch by stitch, as I work in detail on large canvases, inch by inch. My paintings gradually build up this way, which has the advantage of being done in stages that can be left when there is a meal to cook or chores to be done.
