Alive in Winter Book Cover

The small painting I made in the early spring of 2023 was specifically at the request of my husband  who, on a frosty January morning that year, had spotted the scene he wanted depicted on the front cover of his latest book. The sheep in the fields adjacent to the house were doing their best to nibble the frozen grass in the deeply rutted field, while all around them a soft mist turned the trees grey and brown, catching the pale sunshine. The style of painting was inspired by a recent trip to the National Gallery in London where I saw Vincent Van Gogh’s painting entitled ‘Snow covered field with a harrow (after Millet).
